Its all greek to me

Ive noticed that in order to read and understand the bible xians argue that you need to be fluent in ancient greek. But why would their sky daddy write the bible in such a way that this was needed? Couldnt he have written it in English in the first place or found a way that made it possible to translate without leading to confusion? Maybe given us lots of different versions or made everyone on the planet speak greek.
