Some extra difficult questions...

I was looking through Yahoo questions for some ideas to stump xians. Here are a few:

For people who believe in hell? If people were to drill to the centre of the earth...?

Christians, do you think that the Flying Spaghetti Monster has more credence than your god?

Each week I pray not to win the lottery,I don't win the lottery,is that proof it works? I also pray to a different god some weeks and it still works, they must answer my prayers as well.

Why did god make the sky blue?

If someone made a book, you would like to know who the author is, right?

Mike,

This "attempt to stump the Christian" game is fun and all, but i'm wondering if you realise that it means nothing. Let me explain...

Suppose some explorer from the past, say, Cooke, went discovered some tropical island where the natives had never seen snow and he told them about frozen water and they said they wouldn't believe unless you made a snowman for him, and Cooke said, "i don't even know who Mike Wright is or how the internet will work someday"
Does that prove that Cooke's claim was false?

Mike, we have been answering your questions over and over. I have some erands to do today, but when i get home, if someone hasn't answered these, i'll give you some answers... they ain't that tough.

Hi Mike,

Mike said:

The yahoo question went on to say, "...would it disrupt hell?" so i'm going to answer it with that in mind.... you come up with your own questions, then we'll serve you that respect.

No. If Hell exists (and i believe it does), it was made by God for eternal punishment of the Devil and his demons. If it were possible to disrupt Hell, then it would be possible to be more powerful than God, which would be a contradiction.

Christians, do you think that the Flying Spaghetti Monster has more credence than your god?

Why would a Christian think that any god would have more credence than the One True and Living God?

But assuming that it was a typo and the original questioner had meant to ask if the Christians give even a little bit of credence to the FSM since they said, "Given that the text of the bible has been reworded, translated, amended, edited and doctored over the past two millennia there must be a multitude of lies, falsehoods, ‘Chinese whisper’ style mistakes, economies of the truth etc., whereas the author who prophesised the Flying Spaghetti Monster is alive and well so we can all vouch for the authenticity of the text."

So, first, 'chinese whispers'..

The problem with the chinese whispers analogy is that the game is done verbally with no intermediate test of correctness. The Bible was transmitted in written form, geometrically (that is to say, many copies were made from one) so if there were mistakes in one or two copies but not in the other 5 or so, the mistakes would be noticable, especially from a direct look at the original (or the particular copy generation)

According to scholars, if i remember correctly, there is around a 98% exactness among copies, and the few mistakes are mostly spelling errors and misorder errors... like saying ground camp instead of camp ground... leaving no difference Doctrinally.

Second, the Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster has a disclaimer on page xi that states that it is a faith base religion, and since i do not have faith in the FSM, nor (i might venture to say) does any other Christian.

Each week I pray not to win the lottery,I don't win the lottery,is that proof it works? I also pray to a different god some weeks and it still works, they must answer my prayers as well.

What rational human being would buy a lottery ticket and pray to NOT win? In other words, the basis of that person's thought process on both lottery tickets and thinking of God as a cosmic wish fulfiller is mistaken at best and very irrational at worse.

Why did god make the sky blue?

The short answer of "why is the sky blue?" is:

Because He made the laws of nature and nature itself.

But there is also a different answer ...
Because that's the wavelength He chose.

Right now, where i live, it's night time... the sky is black.

If someone made a book, you would like to know who the author is, right?

The rest of the Yahoo question is, "Why is it you accept things that are written yet they have no author?"

WOW... something that is written but has no author??

Divine Inspiration of about 40 authors with the ultimate Author as God Himself.

Ok, Mike... i honestly didn't put much effort into these, but if there is one or two that is actually bugging you, i could try a little harder.

I notice that most of those questions already have answers.

But just for the fun of it here I go:

"For people who believe in hell? If people were to drill to the centre of the earth...?"

This assumes that Hell is in fact at the center of the earth. Which is not found in the Bible.

"Christians, do you think that the Flying Spaghetti Monster has more credence than your god?"

no

"Each week I pray not to win the lottery,I don't win the lottery,is that proof it works? I also pray to a different god some weeks and it still works, they must answer my prayers as well."

This proves nothing, as prayer is not a magic incanation that is always guranteed to get results(or at least the ones you want).

On that note though: why would you pray to NOT win the lottery?

"Why did god make the sky blue?"

Why not? Blue's a nice color.

"If someone made a book, you would like to know who the author is, right?"

I'd be more interested in what the book says. Dante's Divine Comedy would still be one of the most brilliant pieces of literture ever written even we didnt know the author was Dante.
