A Contradiciton

The bible says that astrology is wrong? Yeah?

The Bible says that the wise men used astrology to find baby jebus? Yeah

The Bible contradicts itself? Yeah

Hi Mike,

How is this a contradiction? Were the wise men followers of God?

King David committed adultery, after having the woman's hubby sent to the front line in battle.

Moses killed an Egyptian.

These are things in the Bible that people did. That they are reported in the Bible does not contradict the fact that these are forbidden.

Also, you are misunderstanding something. In the Creation account, God's Word says that He made the stars for signs and seasons.
The star was meant as a sign.

"He made the stars for signs and seasons.
The star was meant as a sign."

Was the star signifying an event that the Magi would have no knowledge of otherwise?

They seemed to know exactly what they were looking for when they went to Herod.

Is this another case of sign interpreted by men = false prophecy... unless sign prompts man to make prediction about God and then it's the good kind?

Mike is right, God (it would seem) used the occultic medium of astrology (thereby enhancing its credibility) in order to pass on a message to the Magi.

Unless, Johnny, you can tell me of a different definition of astrology where constellations etc are not signs/signifiers of events past, present and future.

Conduit, so what? Why can't God use other means to communicate with people?

OK Pixie I don't know how much of the Bible you've actually bloody read... buuuut Christains view astrology as being a form of diviniation from evil spirits etc etc.

Why would God choose to boost the reputation of such a practice if it was not in his will to encourage people to sin?

Unless it is in his will, you tell me.

Actually, I have and no where does the Bible actually say that astrology is any of that. Please cite your verse that says that. Bet that you can't...

Why would God choose to boost the reputation of such a practice if it was not in his will to encourage people to sin?

Bringing them before the Messiah where they brought Him gifts and worshiped him is encouraging them to sin how? Are you sure you've read the Bible because my Bible says that the 'wise men' were the first people (besides Mary and Joseph) to actually worship Jesus, the disciples didn't do it until 30 years latter. Might want to crack open that Bible before you make yourself look even more foolish then you just did.

Unless it is in his will, you tell me.

Sure it was, just as I described above. The found the messiah and worshiped the messiah so please find these verses for me; I shall be waiting for you to produce them although I have a feeling I'm going to be waiting for some time... for whining about me not reading my Bible, you sure haven't read it for yourself.

Deuteronomy 4:19 – “And when you look up to the sky and see the sun, the moon and the stars—all the heavenly array—do not be enticed into bowing down to them and worshiping things the LORD your God has apportioned to all the nations under heaven.

Deuteronomy 18:9 - "When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. 10 Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in [a] the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. 13 You must be blameless before the LORD your God."

Isaiah 47:13 – “All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. Here are no coals to warm anyone; here is no fire to sit by.”

I can't be bothered going into hermeneutics with you, as I honestly don't think that you're bright enough.

But I'm sure if you ask a smart religious person, they will explain the link between the three verses above and astrology being a type of divination not from God, and also that divination is considered to be detestable by God.

You are by far the stupidest Christian I have ever interacted with.

Blah blah blah... a few Bible verse I think that support my point, when they don't...

Wow, I wasn't aware that the wise men were worshiping stars! Please show me where they worshiped the star or is this is in the fundy atheist version of the Bible that I don't have access to? I find in my Bible that they follow the star, laid gifts at the feet of Jesus, and worshiped the Lord. Again, please explain how this is astrology or even supporting astrology because after all... you're using a defintion of astrology that is so broad, that pretty much anything that uses a single astrological sign is condemned in the scriptures. Again, please show that these verses condemn what we find in Matthew, can you?

I can't be bothered going into hermeneutics with you, as I honestly don't think that you're bright enough.

Oh, poor little girl, backed into a corner, so she needs to throw out a few names to make herself feel better. How on earth does any of the verses you gave condemn what happened in Matthew, I have no idea, but it appears you seem to have this idea stuck in your head that God can't use anything in the sky to proclaim a message. Again, please show some real exegesis and not this drivel you dug up.

But I'm sure if you ask a smart religious person, they will explain the link between the three verses above and astrology being a type of divination not from God, and also that divination is considered to be detestable by God.

Learning well form your masters I see, don't actually do any research, just rant. Do you even know the difference between the astrologers mentioned in Issiah and the event mentioned in Matthew? They are not even related in the least bit! While those mentioned in Isaiah were using the stars to express things such as the will of the gods or invoking supernatural spirits to tell them the future (using the stars) there is no evidence of this at all found anywhere in Matthew. In fact, the star announced an event that already happened, while the verse in Isaiah was about using the stars to tell the future. Two different things, so what is your score on exegesis of these passages? A fat F.

You are by far the stupidest Christian I have ever interacted with.

Lol, so says the same person that can't even tell the difference between using the stars to tell the future though invoking the power of pagan gods and their powers and a star appearing to announce the birth of Christ to the wise men. That's pretty funny! You great scholar you! Please enlighten us with your great wisdom and understanding! We'll bow before you!
