How can it be?

Aparently Richard Carrier lost his debate against the dishonest william lane craig (unless richard carrier is being incredibly modest) How on earth could such a thing happen when richard carriers arguments are clearly superior to craig?

I supose its because william lane craig is dishonest and tries to use retoric over good arguments. Infact this isnt the first time craig has been caught out lying.

Im really disapointed and annoyed. I had such high hopes of carrier leaving the debate triumphant. I have so much less respect for carrier when he screws up a debate which should have been so easy for him to win.

I personally don't hold debates to much worth.... there fun to watch, but in the end, most people still hold to their own position, being either disappointed in the performance of "their guy", or thinking the opponent didn't adequately respond to the "silver bullet/ killer argument"... but they seldom look at the points made by the "enemy" as valid points (or say, "yeah? so what about X?")

ooops, that's 'they're fun', not 'there fun'

johnny I must disagree. if you actually watch the debate, Carrier got owned. You can find at youtube.com/tkovrtwrld

Anonymous, are you saying that Carrier is "your guy" and W L Craig had better arguments?
Are you saying that you are now questioning your own position because Craig's position (opposing your own) is, in fact, stronger and more rational?

erm, no I am not. Craig was my guy, but I still think I am qualified to make such a simple judgement as to who won. I'm sure if you watched it, you would find yourself in agreement that Craig did in fact win the debate (Carrier, again, even admitted this much)

My comment was that most people watching debates hold to their own position... even if their guy loses. They then attribute the loss to things other than the strength of the opponents position.... kinda like saying, "lucky punch". (the original post seems to be this case).

Johnny, your point is beautifully illustrated by the debates we have on this blog!

Solves nothing I'm afraid.

I love The Big Question on a Sunday morning, hosted by Nicky Campbell. You'll surely find some if it on the web. Great fun, but solves nothing.
